Brian M. Scruggs
Position

Eastern Michigan University
Where did you go do school?
BA - Eastern Michigan University
MA - Eastern Michigan University
MFA - Wayne State University
What are your areas of research/interest?
Theatrical Design (Lighting, Scenic, and Sound)
Pedagogy
What got you started in theatre?
I took an acting class in hopes of becoming a better writer for my creative writing degree. What I found was that there was a mix of fine art and literature with more immediate results and a much greater shared experience.
What is your favorite performance you've ever seen or been a part of? Why?
My favorite performance, for the time, is Sleep No More in NYC. The immersive quality of the production and the freedom of movement truly make it a unique experience every time I go.
What piece of advice would you give to emerging scholars?
Don't let a setback set you back. Always keep moving forward. To quote Terry Crews: "Don't judge your work while you're working on it."
If someone were to write a play about your life, what would the title be?
The Life of Brian (All other shows with that title have been sacked)
What is a fun fact that we should know about you?
No one is supposed to know this, but I'm actually Charlie Weasley in Wizarding Witness Protection. <Obliviate!>
