What got you started in theatre?
In eighth grade, I saw a production of The Phantom of the Opera, and, by intermission, I knew I wanted theatre to be a major part of the rest of my life.
What is your favorite performance you've ever seen or been a part of? Why?
I have two favorite productions that continue to inform my perspective as both an artist and researcher: The Laramie Project and The Vagina Monologues. Performing multiple roles in both productions and experiencing the whole production process, from auditions through to the final curtain calls, taught me so much about the potential impact of ethnodrama on performers, audiences, and the world beyond the theater in which we performed. These productions continue to educate, challenge, and move me, both as an artist and as a human being.
What piece of advice would you give to emerging scholars?
Schedule time for writing and only for writing. Do not schedule anything else during that time, and do not expect perfection. Give yourself something to edit, and you'll find your voice by watching what ends up on the page.
If someone were to write a play about your life, what would the title be?
What's for Dinner?
What is a fun fact that we should know about you?
I was a horseback riding instructor for the latter part of high school and the beginning years of college.
